OnePlus One, High-end smartphone under Rs 18000 ($300)

A spec hipster's dream smartphone has just became a reality through ONEPLUS ONE. Ever heard of name ONEPLUS?? ONEPLUS is a new Chinese start up mobile company which was founded in 2013 December. Oneplus ONE  is the only smartphone which offers breathtaking top of the line specs at very low price point than any other flagship out there. The response for the phone's killer features was great. Why did Oneplus campaigned their ONE smartphone with tag line "2014 flagship killer"?? Seriously?? Does it really have the mettle to affect the craze of other smartphone Giants. Let's find out.

PRIMARY SPECIFICATIONS:

Oneplus one runs on CyanogenMod 11S operating system based on Android 4.4 Kitkat with the latest 2.5GHz Quad core Snapdragon processor coupled with Adreno 330 GPU accompanied with 3GB Ram. It has giant 5.5 inch full HD display of 1920*1080 pixels resolution at 401 ppi(pixels per inch) protected by scratch resistant Corning Gorilla glass 3. With a 13MP Sony Exmor camera it can capture 4k video recording and a slow motion video 720p video at 120 frames per second(As we have seen in iPhone 5S). It can capture good quality images in low light too, and a 5 MP front facing camera with 1080p video recording capabilities. And also a 3100 mAh battery. The back panel is removable and users can swap between different coloured back shells. ONE releases with two memory variants: 16 GB Silk White at $299 and 64GB Sandstone Black at 349$.

WHAT IS CyanogenMod?

Many of you might not be familiar with the term CyanogenMod. It is an enhanced open source software distribution for smartphones and tablets based on Android mobile OS. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware distributed by manufacturers.

 

Conclussion: The above mammoth features sent shivers up the spine to it’s competitors. There's no company that offers the above listed features at that low price point. But still the vast majority of smartphone customers are Brand Conscious and Quality prioritised. ONEPLUS managed to give such high specs at low cost because they are selling the phone slightly more than the actual device's cost. Whereas Apple,samsung,sony,htc and others sell their phones at huge Profit Margins. Though the design and body of ONEPLUS ONE is looking good ,but it still can't match the premium rich look and feel of Apple iPhone 5S, htc One M8,SONY Xperia Z3 which are metal clads and glossy bodies. So we can't surely say it as a flagship killer. It can't take away the huge market share of Apple,Samsung which are leading vendors in the world. But ONE will give a stiff competition to mid range and it can dilute the high end phone's share a little bit. It has a huge opportunity to gain in emerging markets like india,china and african countries. If you are not a brand maniac and you just need a fast,smooth working  great smartphone at an affordable price, undoubtedly you can go for ONEPLUS ONE.
