New Honda Jazz 2020 to unveiled at Tokyo Motor Show

The New Honda Jazz 2020 is getting ready for its world premiere at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show 2019, which is going to be held on 24th October 2019 to 4th November 2019. The New Honda Jazz 2020 has been spied testing before and it seems to have undergone a design modification. New Honda Jazz 2020 is expected to come with a completely redesigned cabin.

Underpinning the Jazz 2020 will be a new platform that will also form the basis for the 2020 Honda City. International markets will get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a hybrid setup that is expected to be paired with a 1.2-/1.5-litre petrol engine. At present, the Jazz in India comes a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Honda has now confirmed that New Honda Jazz 2020 will get a new i-MMD dual-motor hybrid powertrain apart from regular petrol engine options. The carmaker has developed a more compact version of the hybrid system that powers the latest generation models of the Accord and CR-V to power the Jazz and other small cars like the City and HR-V. This powertrain will make its debut in the upcoming hatchback.

New Honda Jazz 2020 seems to have a stubbier, more upright face, with the wide, slim headlamps of the earlier car now replaced by more rounded units. The car has grown in size and taken on a more rounded appearance. This is apparent in the face with its protruding bumper, the larger two-part grille and the larger, squarish tail-lamps.

There's also the cab-forward look of the earlier car and a unique A-pillar angled into the windscreen. The roofline now sloes down and ends up a slightly more substantial rear end, helped by the wider, two-part tail-lamps. A photo of the interior shows that there's been a full revamp here too, with a new steering-wheel, deep-set instruments and an angled-forward infotainment screen.

  • New Honda Jazz to be unveiled at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show in October.
  • Will debut Honda’s dual-motor hybrid powertrain for smaller cars.
  • New hybrid system is more compact than the one on offer in the Accord.
  • Expected to be launched in India in 2020.

The existing hybrid system comprises of one motor while the new system will have two motors in it. The impact of the new hybrid system on fuel efficiency, power or the overall range in all-electric mode will only be clear once Honda reveals the specifications.

The New Honda third-gen Jazz 2020/Fit 2020 Hybrid, for instance, delivers around 37 kmpl under the Japanese test cycle.

India is amongst those markets where Honda offers the Jazz with both petrol and diesel engines. While Honda has clarified that it will offer all its existing diesel cars with BS6 engines from April 2020, the carmaker might opt to not offer the hatchback with a diesel engine. That’s because the high price differential between petrol and diesel engines is likely to lower the value-for-money quotient of small diesel cars like the Jazz. Instead of the diesel, Honda might offer a hybrid powertrain on the next-gen Jazz.
